New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- Darin Mastroianni celebrated his 24th birthday by stealing his team-leading 31st and 32nd bases of the season, and David Cooper added his ninth home run, but Michael Daniel's two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning propelled the Harrisburg Senators over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-2, before 6,187 on Wednesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.

After Todd Donovan (1-for-4, 3B, R) tripled off Justin Jones in the bottom of the third, Mastroianni (1-for-3, BB, RBI, 2 SB) made it 1-0 with a single to right.

Harrisburg (63-65) immediately responded against Sean Smith in the top of the fourth on a lead-off single by Jamel Spearman (2-for-3, 2B, BB, SB, R), who stole second base and scored on a single to center off the bat of Bill Rhinehart (1-for-4, RBI, SB), tying the score, 1-1.

Cooper (2-for-3, HR, BB) put New Hampshire (58-71) back in front, 2-1, in the bottom of the sixth when he lofted a solo blast off winning pitcher Adrian Alaniz that sailed clear of the access road in right.

That lead dissolved in the top of the eighth when losing pitcher Tim Collins allowed a bunt single to Freddie Bynum (1-for-3, R), who took second on Collins' throwing error. Daniel (1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) then lined a homer, his seventh, over the right field wall to give the Senators a 3-2 lead.

Atahualpa Severino rebounded from consecutive walks to the first two batters he faced, Cooper and Al Quintana (1-for-3, BB), to retire the final four batters he faced -three via strikeouts- to earn his second save in as many opportunities.

Collins (1-3) yielded two runs on two hits in one inning, with one strikeout, to taste defeat for the third time in five Eastern League appearances.

Smith fanned a season-high nine hitters over his Fisher Cats' season-best five innings. The right-hander allowed a run on four hits, walking one.

Alaniz (2-4) worked 3.2 solid middle relief innings to post the victory, registering a season-high eight strikeouts, while scattering two hits. Jones, Alaniz and Severino combined to strike out 16 Fisher Cats' hitters.

Harrisburg will be seeking the sweep on Thursday night at 7:05pm when right-hander Brad Meyers (3-0, 2.03) pitches against New Hampshire righty Randy Boone (9-7, 3.59), who brings a personal string of 16.1 straight shutout innings to the mound at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm with the BayRing Pre-Game Show with Mike Murphy and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network.

Thursday night is Citizens Bank Kids Run the Show, followed by an Atlas Fireworks Show. Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Marc Rzepczynski will be at the game signing autographs for the fans from 6-6:30pm. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call (603) 641-2005.
