(LANCASTER, CA) - Several times this season, the Lancaster JetHawks have
been on the brink of a four-game winning streak. Each time, they have
fallen short - and they did once again on Saturday night. On a night they
inducted their 2009 Hall of Fame Class, the JetHawks gave up three
unearned runs and never got started in a 5-0 loss to even the series and
set up a rubber match on Sunday.For the second straight start, Chris Hicks was the victim of some poorly timed errors. In the first inning on Saturday a ball scooted under the glove of Ronnie Ramirez, who had saved the JetHawks the runs on Friday with two spectacular plays at second. After James Skelton stole second base, he came home to score the game's first run on Konrad Schmidt's single to shallow center.
In the fourth inning, Ryne White led off with a single before Andrew Fie flied out; that is when the JetHawks defense slipped up again. Marcos Cabral made a rare error at shortstop to load the bases. A batter later, Cabral started what could have been an inning-ending double play, but Ramirez's throw was wide at first base and White scored. Ollie Linton then hit an automatic double to deep center and the Rawhide led 4-0.
Bryan Hallberg relieved Hicks and pitched three innings and allowed just one run, and Jordan Powell pitched a scoreless ninth. The JetHawks will look to win their third home series tomorrow night when they face off against the Rawhide at 6:00 PM.
