New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The Zephyrs opened the longest road trip in franchise history on Saturday with a 3-0 shutout win of the Iowa Cubs. Rick VandenHurk pitched five scoreless innings followed by four scoreless innings from the Z's bullpen.
The Z's have won four of their last five games and the pitching staff has been terrific. The Z's offense manufactured its runs on Saturday. New Orleans scored its three runs with a bases loaded walk and a pair of sacrifice flies. The Z's John Lindsey drove in a pair of RBI. The I-Cubs threatened in the ninth but Luis Ayala struck-out the final two batters for his third save.
The Zephyrs pitching staff has the leagues lowest ERA for the month of August. The shutout on Saturday was their third shutout in the last four games. The Z's have pitched only four shutouts all season.
Game Notes: The Z's opened a 15 game road trip on Saturday, longest in franchise history. The team had a 13 game road trip in 1996.
Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Iowa Cubs will play a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The first game will start at 1PM. Hayden Penn and Matt DeSalvo will make the starts for the Zephyrs and Jeff Samardzija and Casey Fossum will start for Iowa. RADIO: AM 690 WIST
