The Newark Bears defeated the Camden Riversharks 10-8 on Wednesday afternoon at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in downtown Newark, NJ.Carl Loadenthal put the Bears on the board in the first inning after crushing a solo homerun, his first as a Newark Bear.
Back to back doubles in the second inning off the bats of Rob Mackowiak and Michael Hernandez helped to tack on another two runs for the home team.
Camden collected two runs off of two hits in the third and another four runs in the fourth. In the fifth Vito Chiaravalloti hit a two run homer, which would be the final of eight runs for the Riversharks.
The Bears notched three runs in the fifth and another three in the sixth, including a Sandy Madera three run bomb that cleared the nets along Newark's McCarter highway.
Sendy Rleal recorded the win for Newark, tossing for two innings striking out one and allowing no runs. Former major leaguer Armando Benitez closed the game and took his sixteenth save of the season after pitching a hitless ninth, striking out two.
Outfielder Tike Redman crossed home plate for his final time in a Bears uniform today, as it was announced during the game that his contract was purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers organization. Redman will be reporting to AAA Nashville this week.
The Newark Bears hit the road, facing the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs for a long weekend series and continue on to York to face the Revolution on Monday before returning home next Friday to face the Long Island Ducks.
