A Night to Remember as Round Rock Scores 15

Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - It may be a little late in the season to bank on potential, but Round Rock proved it still has plenty of it on Monday.

The Express cranked out 17 hits, including 14 from the top six batters in the line-up, en route to a 15-3 win over the Beavers. The run total surpassed the previous season-high of 12 set on May 8 against Oklahoma City and marked the most since Round Rock scored 16 against Fresno on July 24, 2008.

Felipe Paulino allowed one run over five innings for his second win and Mark Saccomanno combined with Tommy Manzella for six hits, six RBI and four runs. Reggie Abercrombie and Chris Johnson both tacked on home runs.

Portland's Josh Geer picked up two quick outs in the bottom of the first before Brian Bogusevic ripped a clean single to left field. Saccomanno followed up with a first-pitch liner to right, putting runners on the corner for Manzella.

With the hit-and-run on, Manzella lifted a light blooper just past the pitcher's mound that would have been flagged down by Beavers' second baseman Matt Antonelli had he not been breaking to cover second. Instead, Saccomanno advanced, Manzella picked up his team-leading 126th base hit and Bogusevic gave the Express an early 1-0 lead.

Johnson followed up with a 2-run single to center that skidded under the glove of Drew Macias.

Geer again picked up consecutive outs to open the bottom of the second, but Abercrombie lifted a shot deep to left field, padding the lead at 4-0.

Portland finally got to Paulino in the fourth, shelling out a trio of hits and scoring a run on Russ Adams' one-out double to center.

The run did little to stop the Express.

Chad Spann led the bottom of the fifth off with a pinch-hit single and Abercrombie followed up with his second hit of the night, a single to shallow left field. Jason Smith followed up with a single to right to load the bases for Bogusevic, who drilled the first pitch he saw back at Geer.

Geer deflected the ball with his glove, ricocheting it far enough behind him to score Spann from third.

Saccomanno followed up with that appeared to be a sacrifice fly to shallow right-center, but Mike Baxter misjudged the ball coming in from right field, allowing two runs to score, making it 7-1. Tommy Manzella padded the lead, driving in a run with a double-play ball to second.

Leading 8-3 in the eighth, Round Rock batted around against reliever Adam Russell.

Manzella led off with a single before Johnson lifted his ninth homer of the season down the left field line, making it 10-3. Three more singles and a Saccomanno double made it 14-3 and Manzella came to the plate again, this time roping his fifth triple of the year to left-center, ending the scoring for Round Rock.

Geoff Geary closed out the final two innings of the Express' 51st win. The two teams meet again Tuesday at The Dell Diamond (7:05 p.m.) for the third of the current four-game series.
