Canadians Remain Red Hot Against Yakima

(Nat Bailey Stadium - Vancouver, BC) - A two-run home run from Canadians SS Michael Gilmartin capped off a four-run inning that propelled Vancouver to a 9-6 victory over the Yakima Bears on Friday afternoon out at Nat Bailey Stadium.

The Canadians pounded out 15 hits off a trio of pitchers for the Bears including starter RHP Ben Dollar who gave up nine hits and six earned runs to drop his record to 0-3.

Vancouver starter RHP Dan Straily was solid through his first four innings, but ran into trouble in the top of the 5th inning when he gave up a solo home run to Yakima RF Tim Sherlock, followed by back-to-back singles from LF Astolfo Inciarte and C Jorge Corniel before giving way to the bullpen.

The Canadians LF Rashun Dixon finished the game 4-for-5 with four singles, C Ryan Ortiz was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Note: Canadians DH Kent Walton did not play despite going 5-for-5 in Thursday's victory over Yakima. Walton suffered an insect bite that had his hand swell up hours prior to game time... C's OF Tyreace House will miss at least the next two weeks with a high ankle sprain suffered in last night's win .vs Yakima. House and RF Conner Crumbliss collided in the top of the 3rd inning as both players tracked down a flyball.

The win moves the Canadians to 11-4 over their past 15 games, and sends them on the road playing their best baseball of the summer. The Canadians will travel to Keizer, Oregon on Saturday morning at 7:00am to embark on a three-game series vs. the Northwest League West Division leading Salem-Keizer Volcanoes starting at 5:05pm at Volcanoes Stadium. Vancouver will send LHP Julio Ramos (2-5 3.00) to the mound in search of the C's third straight victory.

The Canadians return to Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday, August 11th to open up an eight-game home stand against Eugene and Tri-City.
