Redbirds win, claim first place

MEMPHIS, TN - Memphis won their fifth straight game with a 5-2 win over Omaha Monday night at AutoZone Park. The victory paired with a Nashville loss put the Redbirds atop the Pacific Coast League's Northern Division.

Trailing 1-0 the ‘Birds claimed the lead in the fourth inning on Brian Barden's two-run double. Mark Hamilton's RBI-double in the sixth padded the lead before Daniel Descalso scored on an Omaha error for a 4-1 Memphis lead. The Royals scratched out a run in the seventh with Mario Lisson scoring after leading off the inning with a double. Jarrett Hoffpauir capped the scoring with his 13th home run of the season, a solo blast, in the bottom of the seventh. Hoffpauir finished the night 2-for-3 with two runs scored to lead Memphis.

Redbirds starter Adam Ottavino earned the win pitching six strong innings. The right-hander allowed one run on three hits and five walks while striking out seven. Pete Parise notched his second save working a perfect ninth inning. Gil Meche took the loss for Omaha in his rehab assignment. Meche allowed two runs on no hits and four walks in 3.2 innings throwing 67 pitches, 37 for strikes.
