Columbus Re-Signs Goaltender Dan LaCosta

Syracuse, NY (July 29, 2009) - The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed goaltender Dan LaCosta to a one-year, two-way, NHL-American Hockey League contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

LaCosta, 23, appeared in 45 games for the Crunch last season, going 19-18-2 with a 2.79 goals against average and .913 save percentage. LaCosta has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Crunch and is in the club's top five all-time in all major goaltending categories, including games played (79, fifth), wins (33, fifth), goals against average (2.66, tied for third), save percentage (.913, fifth) and shutouts (six, third). He was named the AHL Player of the Week for the period ending February 4, 2007 after posting back-to-back shutouts over Springfield and Rochester.

LaCosta made his NHL debut with the Blue Jackets at Nashville on March 25, 2008. He made his first NHL start and recorded his first win, stopping 28 of 30 shots vs. San Jose on February 7, 2009. LaCosta notched his first NHL shutout on February 10 vs. Colorado and is 2-0-0 with a 1.42 goals against average and .953 save percentage in four career NHL games, all with Columbus.

A native of Labrador City, Newfoundland, LaCosta was selected by Columbus in the third round, 93rd overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
