Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC -The Intimidators bats roared to life on Friday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium, as Kannapolis hit four home runs in a 8-7 comeback win over Augusta.

Brandon Short hit an inside-the-park home run to the lead off the eighth inning to tie the game, 7-7, before Dan Black crushed a baseball over the rightfield wall to put the Intimidators in front for the first time since the second inning. The GreenJackets had led by as many as four runs as late as the sixth inning.

Short also went deep in the second inning to put Kannapolis in front, 1-0.

The power outburst bailed out starter Charlie Leesman, who allowed a season-high seven earned runs in just five innings. Augusta scored four two-out runs against Leesman in the fourth inning to take a commanding 7-3 lead.

But the Intimidators got the comeback going against GreenJackets starter Eric Stolp in the sixth, scoring three runs to cut the deficit to one run. Josh Phegley's third home run of the season came off of Shane Kaufman in the frame to get Kannapolis within 7-6.

Kyle Bellamy (1-0) got his first professional win, pitching one nerve-racking inning. Bellamy allowed two runners to reach scoring position with one out, but Phegley held onto the ball in a collision at home plate with James Simmons to keep Augusta from extending their advantage.

With closer Dan Remenowksy unavailable after pitching on Wednesday and Thursday, Dan Albritton made his 2009 debut with the Intimidators and got a 1-2-3 ninth for the save.

Chris Wilson (3-5) blew the save for the GreenJackets and took the loss, giving up both eighth inning home runs.
