MLS W.O.R.K.S., Real Salt Lake To Co-Host Malaria Awareness Workshop, Youth Soccer Clinic

SANDY, Utah (Thursday, July 23, 2009) - MLS W.O.R.K.S., Major League Soccer's community outreach initiative, and Real Salt Lake will join the United Nations Foundation's Nothing But Nets campaign in hosting a youth soccer clinic and malaria workshop on Monday, July 27 featuring Real Salt Lake players Robbie Russell and Jean Alexandre. The clinic will be held at Rio Tinto Stadium as part of the festivities surrounding the 2009 MLS All-Star Game. The 2009 MLS All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 29 at Rio Tinto Stadium - home of Real Salt Lake - in Sandy, Utah when the MLS All-Stars play Everton FC of the English Premier League. The game will be televised live on ESPN2 and Galavision at 9:30 p.m. ET.

The malaria workshop and youth soccer clinic conducted by Real Salt Lake Camps will give 50 children the opportunity to learn about malaria and how they can become involved in the global effort to prevent the disease, while also providing a chance to meet and practice soccer skills with Major League Soccer players.

In year three of the partnership, MLS W.O.R.K.S. and Nothing But Nets will engage MLS players, clubs and fans throughout the League to help the United Nations Refugee Agency, the United Nations Foundation and the Nothing But Nets campaign to protect more than one million refugees in 15 countries in Africa from malaria.
