Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League and the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League, today announced that the team has signed forward Karl Sellan ["SELL an"]. Last season, Sellan (5'11/200) (24), who hails from Montreal, Quebec, scored twenty-nine goals, assisted on ten others (thirty-nine points) and picked up a league-leading 401 penalty minutes in sixty-four games for the Arizona Sundogs of the Central Hockey League.

Sellan, who will be entering his fourth pro season, set a career high with his twenty-nine goals last season, which placed him second amongst the Sundogs in that category. Twelve of Sellan's goals came while the Sundogs were playing with the man advantage, placing him tied for eighth in the league in that category. Sellan's penalty minute totals last season included twenty-seven major penalties, which was the second most in the league and (at least in part) served to earn him the title as the CHL's ‘Most Annoying Player' in the season-ending ‘Best of the Best' Awards. In 2007-08, Sellan was a member of the Sundogs team that won the Southwest Division and then charged through the CHL playoffs to claim the Ray Miron President's Cup as league champion. Prior to turning pro, Sellan won three consecutive Robertson Cup championships in the North American Hockey League with the Texas Tornado. In 153 total games over three seasons with the Tornado, Sellan racked up 187 points (94g-93a), which included a league-leading forty-three goal season in 2005-06.

The Royals open the 2009-10 ECHL season on Thursday, October 15, 2009 (7:05 pm) when the Kalamazoo Wings make their first visit ever to the Sovereign Center in Reading, Pennsylvania. Season tickets for the Royals' 2009-10 season are currently available. To become a part of Royals hockey, call 610-898-PUCK or log onto www.royalshockey.com.
