Lynx News & Notes

July 13, 2009 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) Minnesota Lynx

This Week's Opponents - Atlanta and Seattle

This week's schedule starts with Minnesota's second matchup of the season with the Atlanta Dream. The Lynx outlasted the Dream in Atlanta two weeks ago, 91-85. Four Lynx players scored 15-or-more points that night, led by Candice Wiggins' 23 points. Wednesday's contest with Atlanta also includes a matchup between the Miller twins, Kelly and Coco. The Miller sisters are natives of Rochester, Minn. and the duo led Rochester Mayo High School to two State Championships. The Lynx will look to keep their perfect record against Eastern Conference opponents in tact. Minnesota is currently 5-0 against the East.

Minnesota will then head west to face the Seattle Storm for the third time this season. The Storm have gotten the best of the Lynx in the teams' two earlier match-ups in 2009, winning 88-71 at Target Center and 90-62 at Key Arena. Lauren Jackson of the Storm has posted a point-rebound double-double in each game.

Wednesday's Day Game

Wednesday's game against the Atlanta Dream will take place at 12:00 p.m. and is the only weekday afternoon game of the season. The day game is also the listed as the eighth annual "Kids Day Game," as local youth organizations are invited to come out and support the Minnesota Lynx. Tickets are still available starting at $10 for Wednesday's game.

13 Cities, 1 Journey

WNBA fan and Phoenix Mercury season ticket holder, Alex Chambers, will be in attendance for Wednesday's game against Atlanta. For three weeks Chambers is traveling the country, visiting each WNBA arena while blogging for "13 Cities, 1 Journey." Due to the large awareness the WNBA gives to breast cancer, Chambers decided to start his journey in honor of his friend Cyndee Luque who died of breast cancer last season. Minnesota is Chambers' eighth stop on his journey that will end July 25 in Connecticut for the WNBA All-Star game.

Nicky Anosike, Charde Houston Enjoy Career Nights Last week both Nicky Anosike and Charde Houston topped their career highs in points scored. Anosike shot 6-9 (.666 FG%) from the field and made a career-high 12 free throws on 17 attempts (.706 FT%) from the stripe.

Two games later on Sunday, Houston recorded a career-high 26 points in the win over San Antonio. Houston missed only two shots from the field as she went 10-of-12 (.833 FG%), including 4-of-6 (.667 FG%) from the three-point line.
