Amerks' Summer Player Profile: Michael Duco

In 2008-09, hard-nosed rookie forward Michael Duco debuted as a pro and member of the Rochester Americans. The 5-foot-10, 194-pound winger played outstanding in his first full season in the American Hockey League, netting 28 points on 14 goals and 14 assists. His contributions earned him the teams' Rookie of the Year honors and solidified himself as one of Rochester's many young and up-coming stars. Back home now for the summer, the Toronto native took time to answer a few questions for Amerks.com about the upcoming season and his life away from the rink.

1.) What was the high point of the 2008-09 season?

Being named Rookie of the Year.

2.) Where did you go after the season ended?

I went to Montreal for a couple days.

3.) When will you begin on-ice training?

I go on the ice once or twice a week but don't start anything too serious until August.

4.) What are you working on to get to the NHL? I am working on getting stronger and faster to be able to make the next step into the NHL.

5.) How do you spend your free time?

I spend most of my free time with friends and family, and the newest addition to our family Duke, a 12-week old Lab.

6.) What is your favorite vacation spot?

Favorite vacation spot to date would have to be the Bahamas Atlantis resort.

7.) Did you watch the NHL Playoffs? If so, what team are you pulling for?

I did, and the outcome didn't really matter to me. I was just hoping to see some good hockey.

8.) Any plans for the summer?

Plans just include working out and working on my game.

9.) Who is your favorite athlete?

Tiger Woods.

10.) What's one thing you can't live without?

My laptop.

11.) In the summer, do you prefer to work out or cook out?

Work out.

12.) What is your favorite junk food?

Don't really have a favorite.

13.) Do you use Twitter?

I don't. Strictly a Facebook kind-of-guy.

14.) What is your favorite sports movie?

Varsity Blues.

15.) What do you enjoy the most about playing in Rochester?

The friendships I developed with my teammates. We had a very close group of guys.

16.) Who on your team is destined to become a reality TV star?

Keaton Ellerby.

17.) Why is hockey the best sport?

Why is hockey the best sport? The thrill of scoring a goal, or the energy you get from a big hit or fight.

18.) Are you looking forward to 2009-10?

I am definitely looking forward to next season. We have a lot to prove.
