Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs made a key mid-season acquisition with the re-signing of Keith Ramsey on Monday. The left-handed starter, expected to help bolster the Blue Crabs pitching staff, is entering his second season with the Blue Crabs after playing with the organization all of last season. In 2008, Ramsey appeared in 21 games, starting 20 of them and posted a 7-6 record with a 4.01 ERA. He struck out 71 batters in 130.1 innings, while yielding just 38 walks.

The 29-year-old from Los Angeles, California was drafted in the 10th round of the 2002 amateur draft by the Cleveland Indians. After being drafted, Ramsey quickly rose through the Indians' organization, reaching Triple-A Buffalo by the end of the 2004 season. During his ascent through the Indians' farm system, Ramsey compiled a 31-14 record in just two and a half seasons.

Following the 2004 season, the Colorado Rockies selected Ramsey in the Rule 5 minor league draft. In 2005, Ramsey spent time in the minor leagues with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Philadelphia Phillies and Colorado Rockies organizations.

From there, Ramsey spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League, beginning '07 in the Texas Rangers organization.

Ramsey began this season pitching close to home in the Golden Baseball League, for the Long Beach Armada. He's logged 23.2 innings pitched in five starts thus far in 2009.

In his eighth season as a professional, Ramsey is 54-49 and has struck out 598 batters while walking just 241.
