And Then There Was One

July 1, 2009 - Southern League (SL1)
Huntsville Stars News Release

A few weeks back we recorded the serial numbers off the Minor League Baseball hologram of five 2008 Huntsville Stars baseball card sets that were for sale at the team store. Those five lucky packs were redeemable for prizes which included use of a skybox for a night, a game-worn jersey, a team autographed baseball, a pair of 2010 season tickets and a Huntsville Stars home game ticket for life (your name on the pass list every night).

As we have previously stated, the game-worn jersey and use of a sky-box for a night were already discovered by lucky Stars fans. Yesterday hardcore Stars fan Ron Murphy came in and bought some card sets and found not one, but two of the three remaining lucky sets. Ron bagged himself a team autographed baseball and a pair of season tickets for the 2010 season. Ron was really stoked. "I love the Stars and I think this is great. I love coming here and watching the Stars. I'll be sitting on the 3rd base line next season and enjoying Homer and the Stars," he said. Ron, congratulations, you're in for next season and you have some card sets that we're guessing are going to be worth a lot of cash in the near future.

That leaves one prize, Stars fans: the ticket for life.

We've had a few people contemplating just buying out the remaining 2008 sets because it'll guarantee 'em the prize. If you were ever going to do that, or if you want to take a chance at winning this last prize and get a set, you better stop by the stadium and ask for Kylee to make it happen.

On another note, the 2009 sets are almost sold out. By the end of the game Saturday they will be gone. Get with Kylee this week if you want to purchase one before they're gone.

And now a message from our friends at D1:

D1 Sports Training will be hosting a football camp open to all kids ages 7-17 next week (July 7-8) at Huntsville High School. The camp will be conducted by Decatur native and San Diego Chargers All Pro QB Philip Rivers. It will feature speed & agility drills, offensive skills instruction, and character building sessions.

Anyone that registers and mentions the Huntsville Stars will receive the D1 member discount on camp admission. "I'm excited to be partnering with D1 to conduct this football camp. It is fun for me to get more involved in the northern Alabama community. I look forward to coming back home and giving the same instruction I received when I was growing up in this area." Philip Rivers, San Diego Chargers All-Pro QB

Stars staff member Joey Harvey has invited D1 folks to attend our game on the 7th and asked if Philip Rivers will throw out the game's Honorary First Pitch. They're checking into it for us and if he will be attending, we'll let you know.

Player moves today: LHP David Welch has been transferred from Huntsville to the Helena roster. RHP Nick Green has concluded his rehab assignment at Arizona. He has been reinstated from the DL at Nashville and has been transferred to Huntsville. He will join the Stars today at Tennessee.

Have a good week and Rock On!
