Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars will welcome a current Major Leaguer to Elfstrom Stadium this evening, as Chicago Cubs reliever Angel Guzman is expected to pitch one inning in tonight's 6:30 p.m. game between the Peoria Chiefs and Kane County Cougars at Elfstrom Stadium. Guzman is expected to start tonight's game, which opens a four-game series between the Chiefs and Cougars.

Guzman was placed on the disabled list on June 21 with muscle soreness in his triceps. So far this season, the 27-year-old Guzman is 2-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 28 relief outings for the Cubs, striking out 27 and issuing 11 walks in 32 innings. Guzman pitched for the Cubs during parts of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 seasons and has 61 career MLB appearances under his belt. The Venezuelan native was signed by Chicago in November 1999. He was with Lansing of the Midwest League as a starter in 2002, going 6-2 with a 2.39 ERA in nine starts.

This marks the second consecutive year that a Major League Cub has pitched at Elfstrom Stadium, as former Cubs reliever and current Phillies pitcher Scott Eyre made a rehab stint at the Cougars' home last July.
