Flo Rida with Sean Kingston added to Fifth Third Ballpark 'Rock the Rapids' concert series lineup

June 29, 2009 - Midwest League (MWL) West Michigan Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps and Blue Cap Promotions announced today that a second high-profile concert has been added to the ‘Rock the Rapids' concert series, making it a two-day extravaganza. Following the Chickenfoot concert on Thursday, August 13, pop-rapper Flo Rida and reggae/pop singer/rapper Sean Kingston will perform at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, August 14, presented by WSNX.

Flo Rida released his eagerly anticipated second album, "R.O.O.T.S.," on March 31, 2009, and the first single from that album, "Right Round," made digital sales history by shattering the all-time one-week digital single sales record, selling more than 636,000 downloads in its first week. That record broke the record previously held by Flo Rida's own game-changing debut, "Low (featuring T-Pain)." The "Right Round" track also became the fastest million-selling digital song ever, reaching platinum status in just two weeks. "Right Round" brilliantly incorporates '80s rock group Dead or Alive's classic, "You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)," and infuses the timeless tune with an unrelenting bass thump under Flo Rida's sharp, dance-extorting rap flow.

Flo Rida initially received national attention when his first monster single, "Low," from his debut album "Mail On Sunday," exploded seemingly out of nowhere in late 2007. The T-Pain-featured cut, now 4x-platinum, was one of the most heavily rotated rap singles of 2008. Flo Rida went on to receive the People's Choice Award for "Favorite Hip-Hop Song" and landed his first two Grammy nominations for "Best Rap/Song Collaboration" and "Best Rap Song."

The 29-year-old Flo Rida has performed on several high-profile TV shows, such as American Idol, on which he sang "Right Round" on April 8, and So You Think You Can Dance, in the summer of 2008. He is scheduled to perform on NBC's Today Show's Summer Concert Series on August 14, the morning of his Fifth Third Ballpark concert.

Seventeen-year-old Sean Kingston was born in Miami but has lived in Jamaica for 11 years. He has accomplished the rare task of creating a new genre where rap, reggae, dancehall, pop, a touch of doo-wop and remarkable songwriting all combine into something fresh and clean, and notably profanity-free. Kingston boasts a musical background: His grandfather is Jamaican legendary producer Jack Ruby, and reggae king Buju Banton is a close family friend. His 2007 self-titled debut featured the No.1 single "Beautiful Girls," which is based on the bass line and lyrical association of the 1961 hit "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King. In 2007, Kingston toured with Gwen Stefani and later with Beyonce.

Kingston collaborated with Flo Rida on the song "Roll," which was on Flo Rida's debut album last year. His new single "Fire Burning," was released in April and rose to #4 on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart. That single is the first single from Kingston's second album, "Tomorow," which will be released on August 25, 2009.

Opening acts for the Flo Rida-Sean Kingston concert will be named at a later date.

Tickets for the August 14 show go on sale at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 2 and can be purchased online at www.whitecapsbaseball.com, by calling the Whitecaps ticket office at 616-784-4131 or at the Fifth Third Ballpark Box Office. Reserved field tickets are $30.00 in advance and $35.00 on the day of the show; general admission stadium seating is $20.00 in advance and $25.00 on the day of the show. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the concert begins at 7 p.m.
