June 28, 2009 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Lexington Legends News Release

Lexington right-hander Robert Bono earned his seventh win and lowered his ERA to 2.16 as the Lexington Legends defeated the Bowling Green Hot Rods 9-1 at Applebee's Park Sunday.

Bono pitched eight innings, his longest outing of the year, and allowed seven hits and one run while improving his record to 7-4. His ERA is second best in the South Atlantic League, trailing only the 2.05 posted by Rudy Owens of West Virginia.

The Legends took the lead in the bottom of the first inning. Jay Austin led off with a double, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a balk. After the Hot Rods tied it in the third on a single by Anthony Scelfo and a triple by Isaias Velasquez, the Legends took the lead for good in the bottom of the third. Austin singled, his second of four hits for the day. He advanced to second on an infield out, and scored when Brian Pellegrini hit a pop fly double to center field.

Jorge De Leon's RBI single made the score 3-1 Lexington in the fourth. The Legends added three more in the fifth inning on a double by Albert Cartwright, a walk to Pellegrini, a double by Ebert Rosario, and a two-run single by Steve Brown.

Pellegrini added a two-run double in the seventh inning to give Lexington an 8-1 lead. Pellegrini's 2-for-2 day, plus two walks, raised his batting average to .381. The Legends added a final run in the eighth when Austin's double scored De Leon, who had walked.

Bowling Green starter Shane Dyer (1-6) took the loss. After an off day Monday, the Legends will begin a four-game series at Augusta Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.
