Down to final strike, Jaxx rally for 6-5 win in 9th

MOBILE, ALA.- The Diamond Jaxx (3-3) were down to their final strike on Saturday night but the Jaxx failed to give in and win their third consecutive over Mobile (3-3), 6 to 5. Steve Bray gave up just one un-earned run in the game through six innings and struck out three. At the plate, Leury Bonilla produced his first three-hit game going 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Mel Stocker and Greg Halman each recorded two-hit games as well.

Mel Stocker brought in Leury Bonilla in the top of the third with a single to left. Bonilla smacked a one out double down the left field line and advanced to third on a wild pitch by BayBears pitcher, Matt Torra.

The Mobile BayBears answered the Jaxx score with a sacrifice fly by Bryan Byrne in the bottom of the third. Byrne ‘s SAC fly scored Mark Hallberg who singled to open the inning and advanced to third on a fielding error by Marshall Hubbard.

The BayBears scored twice on Jaxx reliever Ricky Orta (1-1). Pedro Ciriaco delivered a two out, two RBI single that scored Mark Hallberg and Evan Frey. The runs were the first given up by Orta since June 6th. The two runs gave the BayBears a 3-1 lead.

The Jaxx pulled within one in the eighth inning when Greg Halman grounded out to short, scoring Mel Stocker. Stocker went all the way from first to third on a groundout by Ezequiel Carrera. Stocker goes 2-for-3 in the game with two runs and an RBI.

The Diamond Jaxx were down to their final out and final strike in the ninth. Brent Johnson singled to keep the inning alive and advanced to second on a throwing error by short stop Pedro Ciriaco. Leury Bonilla drove in Johnson to tie the game at three each with a single to right. Mel Stocker walked putting two Diamond Jaxx aboard when Ezequiel Carrera drove in two with a double to right giving the Jaxx a 5-3 lead. Greg Halman doubled in Carrera pushing the lead to 6-3.

Phillipe Aumont (S, 1) came in to the game in the ninth and gave up two un-earned runs and got Bryan Byrne to groundout with the tying run at second base. Aumont recorded his first Double-A save. Daniel Stange (0-2) takes the loss for the BayBears.

The Jaxx take the red eye back to Jackson following the game with Mobile and will open a series on Sunday at Pringles Park in Jackson, beginning at 4:05. RHP Kyle Parker (4-4, 4.06) gets the baseball for the Jaxx. Opposing Parker will be Ryne Reynosso (4-4, 3.52) for the M-Braves.
