Stars take five out of six from Jaxx with win Tuesday

JACKSON, TENN. (JUNE 9, 2009) - Huntsville (35-23) continued their domination of the Diamond Jaxx (23-37) on Tuesday afternoon with a 6-2 win over the Jaxx. The Stars take five out of the six games in Jackson and the first 13 out of 15 on the season. The loss today puts the Jaxx officially out of contention in the Southern League North.

The Stars began the scoring in the first inning on a RBI double by Jonathan Lucroy. The two base hit was the second of the inning. Huntsville added another run in the third with the second hit of the day by Lucroy, bringing in Adam Stern on a single. The Stars took a 2-0 lead.

Marshall Hubbard drove in Oswaldo Navarro in the bottom of the third inning cutting the Stars lead to 2-1. Navarro scored to lead the inning off and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Logan Schafer led the fourth inning off with a triple to left-center field. Chuck Caufield brought home Schafer with a single giving the Stars a 3-1 lead.

The Stars big inning was the sixth in which the Stars put a crooked three on the scoreboard. Huntsville had four hits in the inning and RBI's from Taylor Green, Chuck Caufield and Johnny Raburn. The Stars took a commanding 6-1 lead.

The good day at the plate continued for Marshall Hubbard who hit a solo blast to center drawing the Jaxx within four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Hubbard hit two long balls in the series and drove in five.

Justin Souza (4-5) took the loss for the Jaxx on Tuesday afternoon. Souza lasted just 4.0 innings and gave up three runs on eight hits. The win for Huntsville goes to Germantown, TN native, Mark Holliman (4-2). Holliman went 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on nine base hits.

The Diamond Jaxx squandered a few scoring chances and went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The Jaxx begin a series on Thursday at Carolina. The Diamond Jaxx wrap up a stretch in which they have played 17 games in 13 days. RHP Steve Bray (1-3, 3.62) toes the rubber for the Diamond Jaxx in the game on Thursday. Carolina will feature RHP Zach Stewart (3-0, 0.39) as their starter. Carolina is currently in second place in the Southern League North Division.
