Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders fans will have a unique opportunity to demonstrate their hockey expertise as the RoughRiders hold their 2009 tryout camp this weekend at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Fans on hand at 7:00 Saturday night for the first of two camp all-star games will have the chance to make their picks of the best 15 players in that game; the fan who selects the most players who make the Riders' post-camp roster will win a RoughRiders Fantasy Package.

"This is great way for our fans to be a part of what is going to be a very exciting weekend," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "We're going to see a lot of fine players competing over the next three days."

Approximately 80 players will take part in the camp, which begins tomorrow morning at 8:00. Players will be divided into four teams that will play three games each. Games will be played tomorrow morning and tomorrow evening and again Saturday morning before teams are reset for a pair of games Saturday evening, including first of the all-star tilts. The top performers in camp will return to the ice to wrap up the weekend with the second all-star game Sunday morning at 10:00.

Ballots listing all of the players participating in the Saturday night all-star game will be distributed to fans in attendance. The fan most accurate in choosing players who make the post-camp cut will win the Fantasy Package, which includes four tickets to a 2009-10 regular season game, an autographed RoughRider t-shirt, the chance to sit on the Riders' bench during pre-game warm-ups and a tour of the Riders' locker room. In the event of a tie for the most correct choices, the winner will be drawn randomly from among the tied ballots.

The camp all-stars will not be the only players taking to the ice Saturday evening. During both intermissions of the all-star game youngsters from the Cedar Rapids Hockey Association's mini-mite program will go head-to-head as well.

Most prominent among the camp participants are ten returnees from last season's Cedar Rapids team: forwards Jeff Costello, Zach Lehrke, Ben Lynch, Cody Murphy, Jared Rickord and Eric Robinson; defensemen Bryce Aneloski, Brock Carlston and Doug Leaverton and goaltender Troy Grosenick.

This weekend will also present RoughRider fans with their first chance to watch Nolan Zajac, the team's first round pick earlier this month in the United States Hockey League Entry Draft, and Cason Hohmann, the Riders top pick in the recent USHL Futures Draft.

All tryout camp sessions are free and open to the public. The RoughRiders Fan Club will be on hand at the ice arena throughout camp selling a variety of food and beverages.
