(Allentown, PA) Jon Weber's three-run homer in the ninth provided enough insurance for the Bulls to hold off Lehigh Valley on Sunday, 6-2. Weber's homer, his second three-run blast in as many days (his fourth), gave Durham a 6-1 advantage. It scored Chris Nowak and Alex Jamieson, who had singled and walked to start the inning.
With a 6-1 lead, Lehigh Valley scored once and loaded the bases, but Joe Bateman, who walked two batters in the ninth, struck out Rich Thompson and got Jason Donald to ground to third to end the game.
That made a winner out of Wade Davis (5-1), who now is tied for the league lead in victories. Needing a solid start after the Bulls used a spot starter on Saturday, Davis allowed just an unearned run in 6.2 innings. Durham spotted Davis a 2-0 lead on a first-inning single by Matt Joyce and a third inning homer by Justin Ruggiano.
Durham now has a league-high 48 homers, and is 20-6 in games where the team hits a home run. The Bulls, who took three of four from Lehigh Valley, are 27-16, a season best 11 games over .500.
Durham now heads to Rochester to take on the Red Wings. Coverage on 99.9 the Fan's HD2 on Memorial Day begins at 12:45, with first pitch at 7:05. Carlos Hernandez (3-2) starts for Durham.
