Aerodynamics...

Thunder Rolls...The Aeros lost last night by the final count of 5-1 at the hands of Trenton, suffering just their ninth loss of the season through 37 games. 1B Beau Mills provided the lone run with a solo home run in the seventh, as on the night Akron was hitless (0-for-10) with runners in scoring position, and stranded 11 men overall, with seven runners left in scoring position. Hector Rondon picked up only his second loss of the year after going 5.0 innings and allowing six hits, two runs while striking out six. Five of Trenton's eight hits went for extra bases including home runs in the fourth and sixth inning to break the game open and provide for their final margin of the night.

Jose Can You See...Leadoff man Jose Constanza has had a tremendous 2009 season thus far and currently has a three-game hitting streak after a 1-4 performance last night. He has been one of the most productive players on the team, as he leads the league with 15 stolen bases and is fourth with 25 runs scored. The center fielder got off to a hot start in May, hitting .323 with a .400 on-base percentage and has yet to cool down, batting .313 with a .390 on-base percentage while tied for the team lead with 21 hits this month.

Pitcher's Duel...In their nine losses this season the Aeros always seem to lose in a pitchers duel as their record currently stands at 3-6 when they are held to two runs or less. In contrast, the team is a perfect 5-0 when scoring three runs, and then 20-3 when scoring four runs or more. The pitching has been phenomenal all season as the team ERA sits at 2.91 (second in the Eastern League to only the New Hampshire Fisher Cats).

May Flowers...After a month of April where Akron hit only .248 as a team on offense en route to a 16-4 start, the batting averages are starting to bloom in May. As a team the Aeros are hitting .261 in May, led by a .404 average from reigning Player of the Week LF Nick Weglarz. The team has already hit more doubles in May than they did in April (29-27), while the pitching staff has been just about the same. The pitchers had a 2.84 ERA as a team with a .233 batting average against in April, but through 17 games this month have a 3.00 ERA and a .229 batting average against. The Aeros are 12-5 this month.

Did You Know...Between yesterday's starter Hector Rondon, and tomorrow's starter Chuck Lofgren, Akron is the only team in the Eastern League with two pitchers ranking in the top five in ERA. Rondon remained fifth in the league in ERA at 2.17 after his start last night, while Lofgren currently ranks second with a 1.59 mark, trailing only Troy Patton of the Bowie Baysox at 1.14.
