Beavers Top Zephyrs In 12
May 18, 2009 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1) - New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Offense was hard to come by Monday night at Zephyr Field as the Portland Beavers pitching staff retired the final 20 Zephyrs they faced to beat New Orleans 2-1.
Catcher Eliezer Alfonzo's 12th inning home run broke the tie and gave the Beavers their third straight win over the Z's.
Brett Harker pitched well in his first AAA start. Harker went four innings, allowing one run on five hits, but the Zephyrs offense could not produce enough run support to get him a victory.
John Raynor led off the third inning with a double, and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Manny Mayorson. Raynor was able to score on a wild pitch Matt Buschmann, but this was all of the offense that the Zephyrs were able to put together on the night.
Harker gave up a home run in the top of the fourth to center fielder Will Venable. The two teams were tied at one until the top of the 12th inning when Alonzo went deep for the Beavers. Chris Britton came in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win for Portland.
The two teams will conclude their series tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. with RH Daniel Barone facing LH Wade LeBlanc.
