Kevin Youkilis to begin rehab at McCoy Stadium

Boston Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis will begin a brief injury rehab assignment with the PawSox as he is slated to play at McCoy tonight (7:05 pm vs. Buffalo) and Tuesday afternoon (12:05 pm vs. Buffalo).
Youkilis, who played parts of three seasons with the PawSox (from 2003-2005), was placed on the Red Sox 15-day disabled list on May 12 (retroactive to May 5) with a left oblique strain. He is eligible to come off the DL this Wednesday when the Red Sox host Toronto at Fenway.
But first up will likely be two games at McCoy as Youkilis will appear for the PawSox for the first time since August 30, 2005 when he was pulled out of a game early in Ottawa prior to being called-up to Boston the next day. He has played exclusively for the Red Sox ever since.
Kevin was hitting a Major League-best .393 (35-for-89) for the Red Sox this season until his injury along with 11 2B, 6 HR, 20 RBI, and 23 runs scored in 25 games. He also led all Major League hitters with a .505 on-base pct. and was 2nd with a .719 slugging pct. Youkilis, 30, has a career average of .293 with 72 HR & 334 RBI in 578 games with the Red sox (2004-09). He had his best season last year when he batted .312 with 29 HR & 115 RBI and finished third in the American League MVP voting behind another former PawSox (2008 AL MVP Dustin Pedroia).
Youk will be the sixth Boston Red Sox player to rehab with the PawSox already this season following INF Julio Lugo (April 22), OF Jonathan Van Every (April 22), OF Mark Kotsay (May 2), OF Rocco Baldelli (May 4), and RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka (May 5).
