SUNDAY'S RECAP: Tacoma scored 5 runs in the second inning off OKC starter Tommy Hunter and was never threatened in a 9-1 win in game 2 of the series. Callix Crabbe ignited the early rally with a 3-run triple. Prentice Redman and Mike Morse added home runs in later innings for the Rainiers, who lost the shutout on a ninth-inning single by Greg Golson. Tacoma out-hit OKC 13-11. Hunter allowed all 9 runs in 10 hits in 6.2 innings in dropping to 1-2. Doug Fister (1-0) pitched 7 scoreless innings for the win.

DOING THE SPLITS: This is the third split doubleheader in RedHawks' history. Last year the team hosted a split twin bill against New Orleans June 14, winning the opener 11-9, but dropping the nightcap 8-3. Two weeks later, the RedHawks and Omaha played a split doubleheader featuring 7-inning games at Rosenblatt Stadium, with OKC falling 6-1 in the first game and winning the second 9-4. This season, the RedHawks split a conventional doubleheader at Omaha April 27, losing the first 8-1 but winning the second behind a 7-inning complete game from Doug Mathis 2-1.

THE EARLY RISER: Today's game 1 starter Doug Mathis will make his third start of the year in a pre-noon game. Mathis has started 2 of OKC's 3 previous morning games so far this season. Mathis is 1-1 in morning starts, taking a loss in Nashville April 15 and earning a win at The Brick May 13. OKC is 1-2 in pre-noon starts and will play a total of 8 such early games this season home and away.

HOME RUN HAPPENINGS: The Rainiers' 2 home runs yesterday kept them in a tie with Salt Lake for the most home runs in the PCL with 52. Tacoma pitching is tied with New Orleans for the third-most homers allowed, 38, 10 fewer than Salt Lake. OKC has hit the fewest homers in the league with 12. The RedHawks have gone 9 games without a homer and are homerless in 20 of their last 21. The last time OKC homered was May 8 at Round Rock, when they received solo shots from Joaquin Arias and Brandon Boggs. RedHawks pitching has allowed the third-fewest home runs (23) behind only Nashville (21) and Memphis (19).

BREAKING SLOWLY: The RedHawks have allowed the first run in 9 of their last 11 games and 13 of 16 times in May. OKC is 6-10 in May, 6-16 when allowing the first run and 9-4 when scoring first.

GORDON GOING STRONG: OKC reliever Brian Gordon pitched a scoreless inning yesterday. Gordon has allowed just 1 earned run in his last 12.1 innings spanning 11 outings.

DOT...DOT...DOT...Julio Borbon has hit safely in 7 straight and is 11-for-31 (.355) during the streak, which matches the team high. Brandon Boggs also hit in 7 straight from April 28-May 6...Boggs is tied for second in the league with 25 walks, 12 behind Omaha's Kila Ka'aihue...Esteban German has reached base by hit or walk in 8 straight...Elizardo Ramirez, who starts game 2 today, is tied for ninth in the league with a 3.03 ERA.
