Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
EASTLAKE, OH - The Intimidators allowed an opponent to crack double-digits for the first time this season on Saturday night at Classic Park, as Lake County posted a 10-5 victory over Kannapolis.
The Intimidators were subject to a number of unfortunate firsts in the ballgame. Kannapolis made a season-high three errors and also hit into four double plays for the first time in 2009.
Lake County took advantage of those mistakes from the beginning, starting with two unearned runs in the first inning. Kannapolis third baseman Jon Gilmore threw a ball away with two outs in the first to allow two runs to cross against starter Charlie Leesman.
Leesman gave up a season-most seven runs, four of them earned, in five innings of work. The southpaw also walked three and struck out five. It was the second straight start, and loss, for Leesman (3-2) against Lake County (12-16).
His counterpart, Alexander Perez (2-0), fared better, going 6 1/3 innings while giving up three unearned runs.
Kannapolis (16-13) made a late push, scoring two runs in the top of the ninth. Lake County relievers David Roberts and Matthew Langwell combined to walk four batters in the ninth, but Langwell got Eduardo Escobar to hit into a fielder's choice to end the threat.
