West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

BURLINGTON, IA- A scoreless tie ended with Patrick Norris' RBI single scoring Antonio Jimenez in the bottom of the tenth, and the Burlington Bees edged the West Michigan Whitecaps, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped the ‘Caps three game winning streak and evened the series at one game apiece.

Game two of the series was not a day for the offenses. West Michigan was shutout on six hits, and Burlington managed a run on four safeties.

The ‘Caps best chance for runs came in the fourth inning when they loaded the bases with nobody out. But Ben Guez fouled out, and then Luis Palacios hit a shallow fly ball to left. Bees' left fielder Wilson Tucker caught the ball and then fired a perfect throw to the plate to get Bryan Pounds for the double play.

Mauricio Robles was outstanding again. The Whitecaps' left hander went 6 innings, giving up 2 hits, walking 2 and striking out 9 hitters. ‘Caps reliever Tyler Stohr (1-1) took the loss, Burlington's Blaine Hardy (1-2) got the win.

Burlington starter Bryan Casey was very good as well. He lasted 6 innings, surrendering 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking three.

No Whitecap had more than one hit, and West Michigan did not have an extra base hit in the game.

The series finale begins, Monday night at 7:30 p.m. EST, from Community Field. Right hander Sam Runion (1-3, 9.47 ERA) goes for the Bees, and right hander Brandon Hamilton (1-1, 5.14 ERA) is scheduled to throw for the ‘Caps.
