McCardell Grabs League Honor

FORT MYERS, FL (April 28, 2009)- The Florida State League announced today that Fort Myers Miracle pitcher Mike McCardell has been named Pitcher of the Week for April 20-26, 2009.

The 24-year old West Chester, Pennsylvania native, in his only appearance last week, allowed one hit over six innings for his first win on Friday, April 24 at Jupiter. He held the Hammerheads to a leadoff single in the opening inning, of the Miracle's eventual 3-1 victory.

McCardell, the Twins' sixth-round pick in 2007 First-Year Player Draft, went 9-4 with a 2.86 ERA in 22 appearances, including 21 starts, for Class A Beloit last year. He ranked fourth in the Midwest League with 139 strikeouts. The right-hander has compiled a 1-2 mark with a 6.85 ERA in three starts this season with Fort Myers.

McCardell's selection is the first since former Miracle infielder Erik Lis was selected as Player of the Week for August 13-19, 2007. The 2008 Western Division Champions didn't have a player selected for the league's weekly honors.

The South Division leaders return home to Hammond Stadium on Thursday night to take on the Charlotte Stone Crabs. It's "Thursty Thursday" with ½ price domestic draft beer, brought to you by Bud Light, 96.1 K-Rock, New Rock 99x and Sports Radio 770 WWCN.

Tickets for all 62 remaining home dates are available for purchase at Hammond Stadium or by phone between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Fans also may purchase tickets online at www.miraclebaseball.com. The Miracle's online ticket system allows fans to select their exact seat location for each game and conveniently print tickets at home.

Ticket prices for 2009 are as follows: $7 for Box Seats ($8 on Fireworks Night), $5 for General Admission ($6 on Fireworks Night).
