Error proves costly in Kernels 8-7 loss at Peoria

A Kernel fielding error in the bottom of the ninth inning led to a Peoria rally and a come from behind 8-7 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Sunday afternoon at O'Brien Field in Peoria. The Chiefs overcame a 7-5 Kernels lead with a one out triple by Josh Harrison off Kernels reliever Jeremy Thorne to score the tying and game winning runs.

Hector Estrella broke out of a mini slump, going 3 for 5 with a HR, two doubles and 4 RBI and Anel De Los Santos was 3 for 4 with a HR and 2 RBI as they combined for six of the Kernels 10 hits.

Starter Christian Scholl allowed five runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings in a no-decision effort. Reliever Jeremy Thorne (0-1) allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits and took the loss. Josh Harrison led the Chiefs with 3 RBI and Junior Lake was 3 for 4 with an RBI and run scored. Peoria reliever Ryan Buchter (1-0) pitched an inning of relief for the win.

The loss drops the Kernels to 9-7 in the MWL West as Peoria improves to 7-8. They will look to snap their two game losing streak on Monday evening at 6:30 pm as LHP Manuel Flores starts for the Kernels against Chris Carpenter for Peoria.
