Loons Earn Split of Doubleheader

MIDLAND, MI - Following a rain out Saturday and a one hour, 40 minute delay before the start of action, the Great Lakes Loons and Fort Wayne TinCaps split a doubleheader Sunday. Fort Wayne won Game 1, 6-3, with the Loons responding with a win in Game 2, 2-1.

In the first game of Sunday's doubleheader, Fort Wayne scored four runs in the top of the first and never trailed, winning 6-3. The Loons pulled to within one at 4-3 after Kyle Russell doubled in two in the first and Austin Gallagher notched a one-run double in the third, but the Loons would never get closer.

Reliever Zach Herr recorded the scorer's decision win, working one inning, striking out three. Loons' starter Nathan Eovaldi (0-2) was credited with the loss. Brad Brach hurled a 1-2-3 ninth for his Midwest League-leading fifth save.

In the second game, the Loons won 2-1. Parker Dalton doubled home Matt Wallach for the Loons' first run in the second inning. In the third with runners at the corners, Alfredo Silverio singled to plate Kyle Russell for the Loons' second run.

JonMichael Redding (2-1) picked up the win with five innings of work, allowing one run. Javy Guerra moves into a tie with Brach for the league lead with his fifth save.

The Loons and TinCaps continue their four game series Monday night at Dow Diamond. Game time is 6:05pm. Right-hander Bobby Blevins (1-1) will start for the Loons against Fort Wayne southpaw Nick Schmidt (0-0). Tickets are available by calling 989-837-BALL or by visiting Loons.com.
