GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars took both ends of a doubleheader Sunday against the Beloit Snappers, winning 11-6 and 8-7 in front of 3,917 at Elfstrom Stadium to move their winning streak to four games. They are now in first place atop the Western Division by three full games.

In Game 1 the Cougars got all 11 of their runs in the first three innings. Matt Ray, Steve Kleen and Petey Paramore each collected one RBI in the first, and Jason Christian and Kleen combined to bring home three more during a five-run second. After a three-run homer by David Thomas in the third, the Cougars led, 11-0.

Starter Anthony Capra gave up five runs -- four earned -- in 4 2/3 innings and missed a shot at qualifying for the win. Kenny Smalley (2-1) replaced him and picked up the victory, and Mike Hart logged a scoreless seventh in the 11-6 final.

Then in Game 2, Beloit scored in the first off Brett Hunter before Christian tied it in the bottom half. Hunter yielded three more runs in the second and left after the frame, allowing four runs on four hits over two innings. The Cougars took the lead in the third with their second five-run inning of the afternoon. Franklin Hernandez and Dusty Coleman each had a two-run double, and Grant Desme notched a run-scoring single to make it 6-4.

Beloit crept back in the game with a run in the fifth against Ben Hornbeck and two in the sixth off Leonardo Espinal (1-0) to take a 7-6 lead. Then Kleen launched a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth for an 8-7 affair, and Jose Guzman pitched a perfect seventh for his fourth save.
