Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Idaho Steelheads continued their West Division Semi-Final with Game 4 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria, BC on Friday night. Goaltender Todd Ford got the nod in net for the Salmon Kings, while the Steelheads started Matt Climie.

Idaho got on the scoreboard first while on the man advantage at the 14:05 mark. Darrell Hay released a point shot which made its way past a screened Todd Ford into the back of the net. It was Hay's first goal of the post season. Victoria's power play had two opportunities to square things up, but Climie stood tall to keep the upper hand over the Salmon Kings. Steelheads took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Defensive hockey took over in the second period with neither team making mistakes in the defensive zone. Ford and Climie continued their impressive goaltending performances to keep the second frame scoreless. The Steelheads remained with a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes.

The Salmon Kings' Adam Taylor would tie the game up at the 8:23 mark of the final frame. After some close chances down low, Sean O'Connor shot the puck off Climie, which kicked out into the slot where Taylor would bang home his second goal of the series. Strong hockey was played by both squads down the stretch, and 60 minutes would not be enough time to determine a winner. Overtime would be needed.

A free flowing style was played in the extra frame. The Salmon Kings hit penalty trouble during overtime, but were able to kill off both penalties including a 5-on-3 power play. The Salmon Kings would end the game and the series when Matt Kelly would bat a goal past Climie. Salmon Kings 2 Steelheads 1 in overtime. Victoria wins the series 4-0.

Victoria went 0-7=0% with the man advantage and Idaho went 1-5=20%. The Salmon Kings outshot the Steelheads 40-32.

Victoria now moves into the second round. Game details will be announced shortly. Tickets will be available at the Select Your Ticket Box Office, at 250-220-7777 or visit www.selectyourtickets.com.
