Brown, Wood, Wilson and Coon Return to Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (April 17, 2009) - The Salt Lake Bees announced today the return of infielder Matt Brown, infielder Brandon Wood, catcher Bobby Wilson and outfielder Brad Coon from the Temporary Inactive List. The club announced the reassignment of infielder Abel Nieves to Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Infielder Dwayne Bailey and catcher Ikko Sumi were also reassigned to extended spring training.

Brown, 26, owns a .214 average with one homerun in four games with Salt Lake this season. In 2008, the Bellevue, Wash. native hit .320 with 21 homeruns and 67 RBI for the Bees. He also appeared in 11 games for the Angels last season. A bronze medalist with Team USA in the 2008 Olympic Games, Brown was originally selected by the Angels in the 10th round of the 2001 draft.

Wood, 24, has appeared in four games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .333 with three homeruns, one triple and four RBI. The Austin, Texas native hit .296 with 31 homeruns for the Bees in 2008 and registered a .200 average at the plate in 55 games with the Angels a year ago. Wood was originally selected in the first round, 23rd overall, by the Angels in the 2003 draft.

Wilson, 26, has appeared in three games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .182 with one triple and two RBI. The Dunedin, Fla. native saw action behind the plate for the Bees in 72 games in 2008, hitting .312 with 20 doubles, four homeruns and 45 RBI. He also appeared in seven games for the Angels last season, registering a .167 average. Wilson was originally selected in the 48th round of the 2002 free agent draft.

Coon, 26, owns a .333 average with one homerun in three games with the Bees in 2009. The Euclid, Ohio native appeared in 85 games with Salt Lake in 2008 and recorded a .306 average with nine doubles, two triples, four homeruns, 30 RBI and 17 stolen bases. Coon was originally selected in the 15th round of the 2005 free agent draft.

Nieves, 23, appeared in three games for the Bees in 2009, hitting .571 while scoring two runs. He has appeared in four games for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga this season. In 101 games for Rancho Cucamonga in 2008, he hit .318 with 24 doubles and 54 RBI. The Venezuelan was originally drafted by the Angels in the 50th round of the 2004 draft.

Bailey, 22, joined the Bees from extended spring training. The Orlando, Fla. native did not appear in a game with the Bees. Bailey was originally selected by the Angels in the 21st round of the 2008 draft.

Sumi, 21, also joined the Bees from extended spring training. He did not appear in a game with the Bees. A native of Yokohama, Japan, Sumi signed with the Angels during the 2007 offseason.
