Healthy Hits Menu Unveiled

April 1, 2009 - Southern League (SL1) - Birmingham Barons News Release

HOOVER, Ala -Though many fans still enjoy eating the traditional hot dog, pizza or cotton candy while watching the Barons do battle, there are many fans that simply can't find a way to squeeze that indulgence into their everyday diet. For these fans, it has been a little bit tricky trying to fit a meal between the end of their workday and a 7:05 first pitch.

It won't be so tricky for these fans in 2009, as the Barons have officially unveiled their Healthy Hits Menu. Grand Slam Catering General Manager Eric Crook, University of Alabama Birmingham chef Paul Seery and Red Diamond Food Service thoughtfully prepared the items on the healthy menu. The three entities worked vigorously this off-season to provide options that were not only healthy, but that would be affordable to fans.

"Studies have been done to illustrate that eating healthy does cost more," Crook said. "We didn't want that to be the case in the ballpark. We want to provide healthy options that are on-par price-wise with the rest of the options in our concessions stands."

The Healthy Hits options will be available in every concessions stand in the stadium. The menu is as follows:

- Grilled Chicken Sandwich $5.25
- Chicken Caesar Wrap $5.50
- Mediterranean Chicken Wrap $5.50
- Tossed Green Salad $4.75
- Tossed Salad w/ Grilled Chicken $5.50
- Fresh Cut Fruit $3.50
- Fresh Cut Veggies w/ light ranch $3.00
- Granola or Nutri-grain Bars $1.75
- Yogurt Cup $1.50
- Milk (white or chocolate) $2.75
- Fruit Juice $3.00
- Baked Chips $1.50
- Low-Carb Vitamin Water $4.00

Besides the healthy options, the Barons will also make their existing options just a touch healthier in 2009 by using only zero trans-fat cooking oils in the fryers. The team will also offer only non-fat dressings.

"Knowing that American consumers of all ages are conscientious about their diet and health choices, we are proud to make this options available for 2009," Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson said.
