Charlotte activates Marty Guerin for first time this season

Charlotte, N.C.- The Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League have returned goaltender Jeff Jakaitis on loan from Charlotte. Also, Checkers head coach and general manager Derek Wilkinson has activated forward Marty Guerin off injured-reserve and he will dress for tonight's game in Gwinnett against the Gladiators.
Jakaitis, 5-foot-10, 175 pounds, has played 35 games with the Checkers this season garnering a record of 18-12-4 with a goals against average of 2.77 and a save percentage of 91.8%. The Rochester, Minn., native is coming off a stellar month of February including a 2.48 goals against average and a 94.2% save percentage. While with the Pirates, Jakaitis played in the first AHL game of his career losing to the Hartford Wolf Pack in a shoot-out making 31 saves in a 4-3 decision.
Guerin, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds played four seasons with Miami of Ohio University before turning pro last season to join the South Carolina Stingrays. In 156 collegiate games, Guerin totaled 49 goals and 66 assists for 115 points with 147 penalty minutes. He was a 9th round selection of the Los Angeles Kings during the 2003 National Hockey League Entry Draft. During his year with the Stingrays, Guerin managed 18 goals and 32 assists for 50 points in 68 games. He also added 9 goals and 7 assists for 16 points in 17 playoff games.
The Checkers are playing their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on 8 against the Trenton Devils at 4 P.M. start. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
