Bulldogs defeated by Marlies

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs were defeated by the Toronto Marlies 7-1 in front of 7,163 fans at Copps Coliseum. The loss was the first time the Bulldogs have lost by more than three goals this season.

The Marlies opened the game's scoring at 7:52 of the first frame. Jeremy Williams sent a pass to Phil Oreskovic, who was stationed at the point. Oreskovic blasted a shot that was tipped out of mid-air by Ryan Hamilton and past Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis. Ryan Hamilton added his second goal of the game 18 seconds later. Hamilton skated out behind the Bulldogs net before backhanding the puck between the legs of Denis. Toronto took a 3-0 lead at 18:08. While on the power play, Anton Stralman blasted a shot from the point that was tipped by Jiri Tlusty. The puck beat Denis on the short side.

Cedrick Desjardins replaced Marc Denis to start the second period.

Ryan Hamilton was awarded a penalty shot at 7:12 of the middle frame after being hooked on a breakaway. Hamilton fired a shot but Desjardins gloved the puck out of mid-air.

The Bulldogs were then given a penalty shot at 13:14 of the second stanza after Ben Maxwell was hooked on a breakaway. Maxwell went for a deke but was denied by Toronto starting goaltender Adam Munro. This was the first time in a Bulldogs game that both teams were awarded a penalty shot.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard at 13:29 of the middle frame. Maxwell fed a pass to Sergei Kostitsyn, who was skating down the left side. Kostitsyn one-timed the puck past Munro for his first goal of the season. Mark Van Guilder also earned an assist on the goal, his first-career AHL point.

Jeremy Williams scored the Marlies fourth goal at 18:03 of the middle frame. Stralman received the puck from Tlusty before sending a pass to Williams. Williams blasted a one-time shot that sailed past Desjardins. Toronto took a 5-1 lead at 8:24 of the final frame. Stefano Giliati raced past a Bulldogs defender before skating out in front of the net and slipping the puck between the legs of Desjardins. The Marlies added their sixth goal at 9:46. Jaime Sifers hammered a shot on net that was tipped by Alex Foster in front of the goal. While on the power play, Anton Stralman notched the Marlies seventh goal at 13:33. Stralman received the puck from Tlusty before firing a shot on net that squeaked through the pads of Desjardins.

The Bulldogs travel to Cleveland to battle the Lake Erie Monsters for a 5:00 p.m. game tomorrow night.
