Moose take blades to Backyard Rink
February 25, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with Home Depot, are pleased to announce the winners of the Home Depot Backyard Rink contest. Five members of the Moose will take to this backyard rink this upcoming Monday, March 2nd to take on the next generation of neighborhood superstars beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The contest winners this season were Curt Danners and his son Will who built a backyard rink at their home at 2070 Coronation Road in East St. Paul by Springhill Rd. Nine neighborhood kids will get a chance to play a game of shinny against members of the AHL club on the winning rink.
The Danners will welcome Moose players Michael Grabner, Karl Goehring, Jason Krog, Nathan McIver, and Nolan Baumgartner (tentatively scheduled) for a one-hour game of shinny, followed by dinner, provided by the Moose. The players will also be available to sign autographs for all the neighborhood kids.
The Danners earned the right to host the game of shinny by winning top prize in this season's Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest. Their rink, which is several years in the making, is lit by 6,400 watt light fixtures, has a warm-up shack equipped with a viewing area and wooden stove and is occupied almost every night with local children from ages 5-15.
The Danners were selected out of numerous applicants who had to submitted photos and a description of their rink at any of the five participating Home Depot locations or through www.moosehockey.com. Keep an eye on www.moosehockey.com for your chance to enter the Home Depot Backyard Rink Contest for 2009-10.
