 Central Hockey League

Oakley CHL Player/Goaltender of the Week Winners Announced

February 16, 2009 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Feb 9th, 2009 are forward Jeff Christian of the Tulsa Oilers and Doug Groenestege of the Oklahoma City Blazers.

Christian helped the Oilers earn points in all three of their games last week. The veteran winger scored three goals with five assists and was a very solid +7 on the week. The big game of the week for the Burlington, Ontario native came during the Oilers 6-0 shutout win at Wichita on Saturday night when he scored a pair of goals with three helpers. The 6-2, 210-pound forward had a goal and three assists in Tulsa's shootout loss versus Wichita earlier in the week. On the season, Christian is tied for third in the league's scoring race with 64 points (24-40=64). Tulsa went 1-0-2 during the week.

Groenestege went undefeated on the week in three games allowing just five goals over that stretch. The Stratford, Ontario native began the season as the Blazers back-up but received a chance to play every day due to an injury to CHL All-Star starter Andy Franck. On the season, Groenestege is 17-4-3 with a league-best 2.04 goals against average and a .923 save percentage (fourth in the league). His top performance of the week came in Tuesday's Kid's Day game versus the Southern Conference leading Texas Brahmas when he made 27 saves in a 4-2 win.

In recognition of their achievement, both Christian and Groenestege will receive a special gift from Oakley.
