Former 66er Santana Named 13th Best Major League ProspectJanuary 23, 2009 - California League (CalL) Inland Empire 66ers
Santana was named California League MVP in 2008 after hitting .323 with 14 home runs, 34 doubles and 96 runs batted in while playing in only 99 games. The Dominican-native is the fourth MVP in Inland Empire 66ers history.
The switch-hitter was traded to the Cleveland Indians organization on July 27, along with right-handed pitcher Jon Meloan, when the Los Angeles Dodgers acquired infielder Casey Blake to help them during their stretch run.
The 22-year-old was awarded the 2008 MiLBY High A Batter of the Year award as the best hitter in advanced single-A minor league baseball. Between Inland Empire and Kinston, the advanced single-A affiliate of the Indians, Santana hit .326 with 21 home runs and 117 RBI in 130 games. He led the Minor Leagues with 125 runs scored while finishing second in RBI.
