BOMBERS NOTES

JUST CAN'T GET ENOUGH: The Bombers face the Cincinnati Cyclones this weekend in back-to-back games on Friday and Saturday. The in-state rivals will face off four times in eight days throughout the next two weeks in a battle for playoff positioning in the North Division. The Bombers remain a point ahead of the Cyclones heading into the All-Star break and are 4-3-0-1 against Cincinnati thus far. HOLDING ON: Score first and score often. That was the Bombers philosophy on Tuesday night as they defeated the Elmira Jackals 6-3 in the first game between the two teams this season. Dayton opened scoring in the first period when Brock Wilson fired a shot past former Bomber David Shantz. Danny LaPointe followed up with a goal of his own less than three minutes later. Elmira would keep pushing back, scoring late in the first, but the Bombers would maintain their lead throughout the game. Four goals in the second period by Nino Musitelli, Les Reaney, LaPointe and Dan Riedel, would seal the deal for the Bombers.

RETURNING THE FAVOR: The Bombers were defeated 6-3 by the Elmira Jackals on Wednesday night in a redemption game against Dayton. The Bombers managed a season-low 13 shots on goal, while Elmira had just 23 attempts. The Bombers split action between starting goalie Paul Drew, who was 11 of 15, and Tyler Plante, who went 6 of 7 in relief. Scoring for the Bombers were Nino Musitelli (who had two goals) and Ryan Smyth.

TRICKED BY TRENTON: The Trenton Devils took their fourth straight game over the Bombers on Friday night, winning 3-2 on their home ice. Dan Riedel netted his 10th power play goal (and 16th overall) from Dominic D'Amour and Brock Wilson, while Wilson added a goal of his own from Mike McLean and Jim Henkemeyer. Paul Drew went 29 of 32 on the night. The Bombers held the Devils scoreless on the power play and are 18 of 24 on the penalty kill against Trenton this season.

NO LOOKING BACK: In their final visit to the Cambria County War Memorial this season the Bombers fell 2-1 to the Johnstown Chiefs on Saturday night. A 2-goal second period by the Chiefs sunk the Bombers, who got a shorthanded goal from Ryan Smyth. It was Smyth's 12th goal of the season, just two shy of his season total last year. In net for the Bombers was Tyler Plante, who finished the night 23 of 25.

LIGHTNING MCLEAN: Mike McLean continues to pour on the points, this week riding a 4-game assist streak. He had 5 helpers during the Bombers road trip and has built up a 7-game road assist streak and 9-game road point streak dating back to December 20. The Oshawa, Ontario native has 13 assists and 16 points in his last nine games overall, leading the team with 42 points on the year.

WELCOME BACK: After missing more than a month due to injury, rookie Jim Henkemeyer returned to the ice on Friday in Trenton. He picked up an assist against the Devils, his sixth of the year. Henkemeyer has 8 points (2g,6a) this season for the Bombers.

WILSON'S WEEK: Defenseman Brock Wilson tallied four points (2g,2a) last week on the road. He's had seven points (3g,4a) in his last seven games.

REMEMBER HIM: Justin Bowers, who is currently on loan to the Lake Erie Monsters, the "AAA" affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche, picked up his first career AHL point on Sunday night with a goal in the Monsters' 2-1 loss to the Houston Aeros.

MILESTONES: The following Bombers players are approaching career milestones: Dan Riedel - 1 goal shy of 50 career goals; Dominic D'Amour - 4 assists shy of 50 career assists; Ryan Smyth - 4 points shy of 50 career points; Mike McLean - 2 assists shy of 50 career assists; Joe Van Culin - 1 point shy of 50 career points
