Checkers Jakaitis Called up to Monarchs

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League announced today that they have called up Checkers netminder Jeff Jakaitis and signed him to a Professional Tryout contract (PTO).
Jakaitis, 5-foot-10, 180 pounds, dressed in 24 games for the Checkers this season with a record of 12-9-2 holding a save percentage of .913 and a goals against average of 2.72 with three shutouts. The Rochester, Minn. native suited up in 36 games for the Columbia Inferno last season compiling a record of 12-14-6 keeping a .909 save percentage and 2.92 goals against average with two shutouts. Jakaitis played three seasons of NCAA hockey for Lake Superior State University dressing in 100 games. In his final collegiate season, Jakaitis posted a robust .931 save percentage with a 2.31 goals against average and three shutouts.
The Checkers are playing in their 16th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game will take place on Jan. 24 against the South Carolina Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. In the team's 15-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 11 times including four consecutive playoff appearances to date.
