Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release
Last Week:
Friday, January 16 @ Charlotte, 1-5 L
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Mississippi Sea Wolves held even with the Charlotte Checkers for the first 50 minutes, but four late third-period goals sank the Pack as Charlotte came out victorious by the score of 5-1.
Charlotte's Chris Capraro, playing in his first game with the Checkers since returning from Germany, took a feed in the low slot from Ryan Hillier, who was behind the net, and popped it past Jeremy Duchesne for a power play goal and a 1-0 Charlotte lead at 11:47 of the first period.
Bill LeClerc's first goal of the season drew the Sea Wolves even as LeClerc fired a wrist shot from the left point through a tangle of traffic in front of the net and past Checkers goalie Jeff Jakaitis to even the score at one-apiece.
The Checkers took the lead for good in the third period when Ryan Hillier found a loose puck and beat Jeremy Duchesne through traffic at 4:35 of the third period. The Checkers would get insurance goals from David Rutherford at 11:07, Mike Bayrack at 12:16, and Brad Ralph at 19:05 as they commanded the third period en route to a 5-1 lead.
Jeremy Duchesne made 32 saves to take the loss, and John Hallas made three saves in seven minutes of relief work.
