Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, N.J. (January 6, 2009) -- The ECHL announced today that Trenton Devils goaltender Gerald Coleman is the Reebok ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Jan. 4.

Coleman is the first Trenton Devils goaltender to receive the honor since the week of March 10-16, 2008, when Jason Smith earned the accolade.

Returning after missing a month due to injury, Coleman started four games in five days and went 4-0-0-0 with a goals-against average of 2.21 and a save percentage of .915. He helped the Devils improve to 8-2-0-0 in their last 10 games and 11-3-1-1 in their last 16 to even their record at 14-14-1-2.

After stopping 17 of 18 shots in a 4-1 win against Elmira on Tuesday, Coleman had 20 saves in a 5-4 win at North Division leader Johnstown on Wednesday. He turned aside 19 shots in a 3-2 win against Dayton on Friday and had a season-high 41 saves in an 8-2 win against the Bombers on Saturday.

The 23 year old is 5-0-0-0 with a shutout, a goals-against average of 1.65 and a save percentage of .937 in five games for Trenton. The Devils acquired him in exchange for future considerations (defenseman Gord Burnett) on Nov. 23 from Phoenix where he was 2-1-1 with a goals-against average of 1.48 and a save percentage of .950 in four games.

Selected in the seventh round (224th overall) by Tampa Bay in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Coleman also played in the American Hockey League this season, appearing in three games for Worcester.

The Devils will travel to the Buckeye State on Friday to play against the Cincinnati Cyclones, with the faceoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fans can listen to the free audio broadcast at www.trentondevils.com, courtesy of B2 Networks.
