Pope Scores Twice, but Victoria Wins 5-2

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Bakersfield Condors fell to the Victoria Salmon Kings, 5-2, before 4,664 fans at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre Friday night. F Matt Pope netted both goals for Bakersfield, adding to his team-leading total of 19 on the season.

langagerVictoria (22-9-2, 46pts) opened the scoring just over 3:00 into the first frame, when RW Curtis Billsten found the back of the net. At 14:12, RW Wes Goldie added to the Salmon Kings lead with his ECHL-leading 28th goal of the year, putting Victoria up, 2-0, through one.

The Condors (11-16-4, 26pts) got on the board 4:09 into the second period, as F Matt Pope connected with a power play goal on a one-timer from the right wing circle, set up by D Kevin Truelson and C Bruce Graham. However, Victoria responded with a power play tally of their own by D Dylan Yeo at 6:28 to extend the lead back to two, 3-1.

After the Salmon Kings lit the lamp midway through the third period to go up, 4-1, Pope notched his second of the game on the power play at 18:34 to bring Bakersfield within two. However, Victoria added an empty net tally to seal the win and account for the 5-2 final score. D Jay Langager (pictured) skated in his first game of the season, while G Ryan Nie stopped 34 of 38 shots for the Condors.
