Moose release Boutin; recall Ellis from Victoria

The Manitoba Moose announced today they have released goaltender Jonathan Boutin from a professional tryout contract and recalled goaltender Julien Ellis from the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL.

Ellis, 22, has appeared in five games this season with the Salmon Kings after recovering from a high ankle sprain suffered in Vancouver Canucks training camp. In that time, the Sorel, PQ native is 4-1-0 with a 1.40 goals against average and a .948 save percentage. In his three-year pro career, Ellis has played in nine games with the Moose where is 1-7-0 with a goals against average of 3.22 and a save percentage of .885. In 84 career ECHL games, he is 50-26-14 with a goals against average of 3.09 and a save percentage of .908 - all with Victoria. He was originally drafted by the Canucks in the sixth round, 189th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Boutin, 23, appeared in one game after being signed to a PTO on Nov. 24/08. He stopped 34 of 38 shots but took the loss on Dec. 5 @ San Antonio. in 10 games so far this season with the ECHL's Victoria Salmon Kings and has compiled a record of 6-3-1 with a goals against average of 2.51 and a save percentage of .914 with a pair of shutouts. In 97 career games in the AHL in four seasons with Springfield and Norfolk, the Granby, PQ native is 30-47-6 with a goals against average of 3.25 and a save percentage of .899. Boutin was originally drafted by Tampa Bay with their third round choice, 96th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
