Broncos Pitcher Santo Hernandez Acquired By Philadelphia Phillies

Laredo, TX- The Laredo Broncos of the United League has announced that Ace Santo Hernandez has been signed by the World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies. Hernandez played two seasons with the Laredo Broncos and earned United League Pitcher of the Year in 2006 and 2008. Always one of the premier pitchers in independent ball, Hernandez finally gets an opportunity to get back to affiliated ball.

The 24-year-old was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the Colorado Rockies in December of 2000. He spent two seasons in the Rockies organization before joining Pensacola in 2004. Hernandez has pitched 7 years professionally and has been successful every year.

Laredo Broncos General Manager Jose Melendez was very pleased with the purchase of Hernandez, "I am very excited and happy for Santo. He has shown that he is an elite pitcher and I wish all the best with the Phillies. I think the Phillies will like what they got."

Hernandez will report to Spring Training in early March. Mal Fichman, Philadelphia Phillies independent league super scout, has seen Hernandez pitch on several occasions and was convinced that Hernandez can do well for the Phillies. "I am very glad the Phillies are able to give him an opportunity to show us what he is capable of. We expect nice things from Santo and look forward seeing him in Spring Training in March." Added Fichman.
