San Antonio Rampage News Release
ROSEMONT, Illinois (December 14, 2008) - After setting a franchise record with six straight wins, all at home, San Antonio ventured out and found the road unwelcoming dropping a 4-1 decision to the Chicago Wolves, Sunday at Allstate Arena.
After holding Hershey's Keith Aucoin and Quad City's Jamie Lundmark in check, the Rampage could not hold down another of the AHL's top scorers, Chicago forward Joe Motzko. Motzko tallied 3 points including a goal leading the Wolves to four, second period goals.
Rampage goalie Al Montoya got the start giving Josh Tordjman a rest from his six-game winning streak and stood tall in the first, saving all 10 Chicago shots.
Scoreless after one period, Chicago took the game over in the second. Tomas Pospisil struck just one minute into the period and Jeff Hamilton added a power-play goal at the seven-minute mark, both from Motzko, to stake the Wolves to a 2-0 lead. The flurry continued when Steven Martins scored to give Chicago a 3-0 lead at the 8:26 mark. Five minutes later, Motzko scoring a goal in his fifth straight game put the Wolves up 4-0.
San Antonio avoided the shutout at 10:08 in the third when Derek Nesbitt put the Rampage on the board to make it 4-1.
Brent Krahn, who played 14 games with San Antonio in the 03-04 season, made his Wolves' debut saving 22-23 shots to get the win. Montoya took the loss saving 28-32.
The loss extended the franchise-record road winless streak to 11 games. San Antonio was playing the back end of a home and road back-to-back but will return home to face the defending Calder Cup Champion Wolves this Thursday and Friday at the AT&T Center where the Rampage have won six straight. This was the first December loss for San Antonio.
