Syracuse Crunch News Release

Rochester, NY (December 14, 2008) - The Syracuse Crunch couldn't get anything going offensively at the Blue Cross Arena Sunday, as they were shut out 1-0 by the Rochester Americans in front of 2,486 fans.

The Crunch let up the first goal for the third straight game when Kenndal McArdle swatted a backhand past Crunch starter Ryan Munce off a wraparound chance by Jacob Micflikier at the 7:47 mark of the first period.

Crunch left wing Mike York had three shots on goal and some quality scoring chances, but could not break through Rochester starter Mike Brodeur.

After the first period, the Crunch held a 10-9 shots advantage over the Amerks.

The Crunch managed another 12 shots on Brodeur in the second stanza, but still could not break through even with two power play opportunities.

Munce stopped 12 shots of his own in the second to keep it a 1-0 game through 40 minutes of play.

Syracuse had a great chance to tie the game on a shorthanded breakaway about six minutes into the third, but Derek MacKenzie was denied by the left pad of Brodeur to keep it a 1-0 game.

About one minute later, the Crunch again had a golden opportunity, but Maksim Mayorov rang a shot off the right post on a 2-on-1 feed from MacKenzie.

Two late power plays still could not produce a goal for Syracuse, as Brodeur earned the shutout.

Munce finished with 29 saves for the Crunch.
