Aces Win Thriller

November 7, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

BOISE, Idaho - Colin Hemingway snapped a 1-1 tie with 70 seconds left in regulation to give Alaska a 2-1 victory over Idaho in front of 4,800 Friday at Qwest Arena.

For the first time in their ECHL history, the Aces garnered five points of a possible six in a three-game series in Boise. Alaska now owns sole possession of first place in the West Division with a record of 7-2-1, second only to Wheeling (5-0-3) in the 23-team ECHL

After a scoreless first period in which the Aces out-shot their hosts 11-7, the Steelheads grabbed the lead for the third straight time in this series, as Blaine Jarvis fooled Alaska goalie Jean-Philippe Lamoureux with a wrist shot from an awkward angle that hit the netminder's right skate and trickled over the goal line 1:50 into the middle frame. Playing out of position at right wing, erstwhile ECHL All-Star defenseman blasted home a one-timer for the equalizer with 2:35 left in the second period.

The score remained tied as Alaska wasted a five-on-three power play midway through the final period and Idaho failed to convert back-to-back opportunities with the man advantage. Finally, Alexandre Imbeault, from behind the Steelheads net, slipped a centering pass to Hemingway, who made no mistake, beating Idaho goaltender Matt Climie (27 saves) with his sixth goal of the year.

The Aces finished the game with 13 skaters, while Lamoureux collected 34 saves to keep his and the team's unbeaten streak intact at five games (4-0-1). Alaska returns home to open a three-game series with 6-2 Utah next Friday at 7:15 p.m. Saturday's contest also begins at 7:15 p.m., with the finale scheduled for a 5:05 p.m. start. All three games will be broadcast live on the flagship home of Aces hockey, KFQD 750 AM.
